November 2023

Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,

Thanks to all the owners who attended our Board meeting last week. I wanted to remind everyone that our next meeting is being moved up to the second Wednesday in December to better accommodate holiday plans. We will circulate the zoom info and agenda but please save December 13th 9:00 AM HST on your calendars. If you ever forget a Board meeting date or can’t find the email Evelyn sent about your pest control, you can easily refer to the Events Calendar on the Ekahi Owners Website:

https://waileaekahi.com/owners/calendar.php

I have attached the 2024 Budget, 2024 Barrera Reserve report and the October Financials for your records. Also attached you will find our 2024 Maintenance Fee update. These documents are also posted on our Ekahi website for further reference. I think it’s important to mention we have contracted Mid-pacific Pest Control for another 24-month contract that includes interior termite inspections in addition to regular quarterly services. Vent Tech is contracted again for September 2024 and will be servicing and cleaning all the dryer vents. We will of course send out further details when they become available.

Last week brought some high winds and fire alerts to Maui, with a brush fire that closed Veterans Highway for the afternoon but was later extinguished. The winds brought down a large tree at Wailea Blue Course, but Ekahi fared well, and no damage was reported. Just a big mess to clean up. What we did notice is that our phones and other devices all received MEMA emergency alerts which will likely be the case moving forward after the harsh criticism our county officials faced after the Lahaina Fire. Below is the link to the Maui Emergency Management Agency site where you can register for these notifications:

This week we are trimming Monkeypod Trees in parking lots adjacent to building 1, 5, 9 and 33 and you may have received a notification if we need to move your vehicle. In addition, Surface Solutions is bush-hammering and staining sidewalks at buildings 12, 15, 17 and 18 this week and next week we will complete buildings 25 and 29. Signs are posted to alert your incoming guests of this vendor activity.

December 13-15th there is scheduled termite tenting happening over at building 21. You will see Ven and his team start preparing for that soon with removal of necessary plants materials and bougainvillea on the trellis’. If you are in an adjacent building, you may want to notify your guests. If they haven’t seen this activity before, it can be alarming, but we can assure you that the proximity to the effected building doesn’t impose any risk to occupants or passerbys.

We have seen demand increase at our BBQ areas and recently replaced 8 of 10 Weber grills at the outer pools and building 47 so we are prepared for high season. Beginning this week, our Firemagic Electric BBQ is being made available for use by 11 AM so more owners can try out this equipment and offer feedback. There is a QR code survey to share your experience and instructions are posted at the site in front of Building 47 where the electric grill is located. Asking you again to please make sure the after-hours Security phone number is available for your guests in case we need to deliver propane.

Wailea Community Association announced there will be a firework display from a barge off Wailea Beach on New Years Eve and we will post a flyer for the guests when it gets a bit closer. Don’t forget, Wailea Beach parking lot remains closed for a paving project until about February of next year.

Last week, I assisted a woman who was locked out of her vacation rental at Sunset. It was windy, dark, she was wet, cold, and very scared. She regretfully left her phone inside to take a relaxing beach walk and forgot her door code. The number on record was for an individual employee, not an after-hours response line. Please make sure you have lock out information and guidance available to your guests. On the weekends that I rotate for the Manager-on-duty shift, guest lockouts are my most frequent after-hours emergency. You can also update your own account information at the Ekahi website to include an after-hours number for our reference.
