Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,

Ekahi is in full bloom! With Ven and his crew working tirelessly into Spring, their expertise at orchid grafting is evident, selective replanting after the curb project is gorgeous, and watching some of our bromeliads and ginger flowering back to life is spectacular. The erosion of the sand at Keawakapu in January has completely recovered, and the long beach walks you dream about all year are possible again.

Up at the Wailea Village Shops, there’s been some action with a new restaurant opening. Spoon and Key is getting rave reviews from our owners thus far and is owned and operated by the same group that managed Capiche and The Market Maui. They are open for breakfast and offer a pre-fixe at dinner. Reservations are required. Oao (pronounced wow) serves up delicious sushi in the old Fabiani location at Wailea Gateway Center. This is a popular spot for happy hour between 3-5 PM daily now that they received their liquor license. And finally, the long-anticipated opening of Wolfgang Steakhouse in the former spot of Longhi’s Wailea, is finally slated to open on April 12th at the Shops of Wailea.

 Some of you have contacted me about the 6-week parking lot project that is planned this year and I appreciate your inquiries. I think we have almost all the owner’s long-term car keys to help avoid calling tow trucks but urge those of you that are holding out to get those to us asap. Obviously, there’s a lot of details we will need to communicate, but for now I can confirm we have the dates.

The parking lot project will begin Monday August 19th, and will take about 6 weeks to finish up around October 4th.

At last weeks Board meeting, our Pavilion Chairman Dr David Berman brought forward a recommendation to change the gate code at the fitness center and better regulate underage users. We are disappointed to see that people will enter when they are completely sandy, or wet, with little thought of how beach sand or salt water will damage our equipment. I’m optimistic the abuse was excessive due to our Spring Breakers but we need to protect our warranty.  We will issue separate communication as a reminder for the gate code but ask that you please make a note now. I’ll make sure to include as many of the agents and owner representatives on the gate code message as I can, but your help strongly urging your guests to be discreet with the code unique to the gym, and not provide it to our minor occupants, would be appreciated. I’m also requesting that you provide the fitness center rules in your unit and in the welcome packet provided to your guests. It’s attached for you.

Fitness Center gate code will change to C2983 on May 1, 2024.

In May, we will be back to scheduling stairwell landing repairs with Top Gun Painting, Thiago Plumbing will be installing some 2-way cleanouts and continuing with our under-slab pipe descaling work, and What Tree LLC will be on-site to assist with some Royal Poinciana tree removal along our main driveway.

The new retaining wall between buildings 43 and 44 is completed, and we have ordered sod for the area in front of 44A that used to be a flower bed. We are waiting for one more bid for the cement pathway and hope to get that sidewalk extension completed in May with the addition of path lights, and new plants. We posted a few progress pictures on our Facebook group page, and I attached one here as well.

T and K plumbing is moving around property the next few weeks finishing up the installation of the new backflow preventers and flow meters. This does require a 2–3-hour water shut off, and we are communicating this schedule in advance since the backflow preventer controls 3 buildings.

Thanks to all the owners that have asked about Evelyn, and extra appreciation for your patience while Tammy, Chloe and I cover her duties. Her knee surgery went well, and she is home recovering. She asked that we pass along this message:
