Note from the GM – June 2024

Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,

If you haven’t received the important email related to parking lot closures, please contact the office and they will forward it to you directly. The schedule for the 2024 paving project is finalized, and color-coded maps were issued highlighting areas of impact. The parking lot closures start on August 19 and if the weather behaves and there are no unforeseen delays, we should be able to reopen the final parking lot on September 19.

Euro-Tech has been progressing well at the Pavilion, but the condition of our deck was worse than expected. Unfortunately, we will have to extend the closure of the Pavilion pool one more day and won’t reopen until Sunday morning. The building signs have been updated, and Chloe will be here on Saturday June 15th to speak with guests who are anticipating the opening on Saturday. Chloe and her team are working hard to balance the water after all the dust and chemicals blew in.

Our Pavilion seating, kitchen and bathroom areas had the tile professionally cleaned. We striped and retinted the cement umbrella pads, pool coping and beach shower. Beach steps are freshly painted, naupaka overgrowth was pruned, and the 6 coconut palms trees approved for replanting are being installed. We replaced the railing adjacent to the beach shower and jetted all 3 drains in the area. Ven and his team also dethatched the lawn, and the regrowth is coming back nicely already. I hope you are all as pleased with the results as we are!

Our BBQ Committee has been merged into the Pavilion Committee, since all the major design decisions have been made, locations are finalized, and materials are on order. Director Lauren Parry is a member of the Pavilion committee and will remain highly engaged while we execute the build-out and receive feedback on usage. The BBQ Committee presented a split decision on the hours of operation, and ultimately, it came down to a Board majority vote for an 8 PM closure at the outer locations, while still allowing the Pavilion BBQ’s to be used until 10 PM. This is the same as the current schedule. Once the new sites are finished, they will be open in the morning so folks can grill at lunch.

Thiago’s plumbing will continue servicing the under-slab pipes with installation of 2-way cleanouts, hydro-jetting and descaling. Guests and owners have been wonderfully cooperative, and we have had very few objections to our process. I am trying to issue the notices and requests for entry as far in advance as possible. We do appreciate your flexibility in allowing this to run successfully. With Ekahi staff working nearby, building notices up, and plenty of plumbers around, we have had zero complaints at the office from your guests, and we have completed 10 buildings! This leaves us all very optimistic about the continued success of this preventive maintenance initiative. I can’t say enough about how professional, efficient, and nice this plumbing crew is.

Don’t forget to check the events calendar and the current projects pages of our website for more information.

There were 8 alterations reviewed and approved yesterday, and those are listed under current remodels. The Board of Directors meetings are now the 2nd Wednesday of the month for 2024.  The deadline for submission of completed Alteration Application Forms to the GM is the 25th of the prior month. This allows the Building and Site Committee to review and present their recommendations to the Board.

We will share your favorite Ekahi or Maui pictures, and give you credit, if you are an Ekahi AOAO Facebook group member. Please send those prized pictures directly to Chloe at poolmgr@waileaekahi.org
