A Note from the GM – December 2024
As 2024 draws to a close, we want to remind you that our offices will be shut for the holiday Wednesday, January 1st. We will have staff coverage at our Pavilion should you or your guests require assistance. Please note there is unusually high use of parcel lockers while everyone is holiday shopping and we do ask that you are timely with your mail retrieval in the lobby. We keep the doors unlocked until 10 PM for your added convenience.
Grand Wailea Resort has received a permit for fireworks off a barge at wailea Beach at 11:59 PM on December 31, and the New Years Eve show is expected to last about 10 minutes.
We are starting to see some of the impacts of holiday travel and rising occupancy in Wailea. Please continue to update your arrivals and departures on a regular basis on the Ekahi website. For those of you that haven’t already noted the gate code change, effective January 10, 2025, our Pool, Pavilion and Pickleball gate code is C0615. The code for the fitness center will be C2987. Our teak gate at the beach access stairway was just replaced last week and looks fantastic!
The community BBQ areas have been completed and are already very popular with guests. There are trash cans and grill brushes provided, and we ask that you include some information in your welcome packet for arriving guests about cleaning after use. Instructions are included for both the propane and electric grills, and appropriate signage is in place. The lights have been installed on a solar photocell and can be manually turned off at 8PM when we secure the areas. Our team will open the propane tanks when we clean the pools at 8 AM, and grill cleaning will be scheduled between 9-3 daily. There’s a couple of photos attached for your marketing purposes.
Maui County has not provided any relief on the Stage 1 Water Restriction, and we haven’t had any measurable rain in Wailea since January of 2024. Our neighbors are feeling the pinch as well, only the golf courses are green and lush with their use of groundwater wells. Our Landscaping Committee is doing some preliminary work to see if we can appeal to the Wailea Community Association’s rules against properties below the golf course being permitted for wells to irrigate. Our appeal for a well would require an SMA permit application, and a change to the WCA governing documents that are currently prohibitive. In the meantime, we are only allowed to run our sprinklers twice weekly for 8 hours. Anything you can do to remind your guests to be conservative is appreciated.
Wailea Community Association has moved their offices just a couple of doors down from their old location, and the new address is 34 Wailea Gateway Place #A-205 (Monkeypod Kitchen Shopping Center). Services provided for your annual fee’s include a notary, and exclusive Wailea merchant discounts. The fees have increased for 2025 and payments are due in January and July. I’ve included the WCA fee notice as an attachment.
Our contract for 2024/2025 with Mid Pacific includes the remaining termite inspections for Phase 2 and 3. The attached 2025 vendor schedule reflects the quarterly interior treatments for 2025 and aligns with our exterior painting schedule when buildings are closed. Mark Redeker, the Owner of Mid-Pacific will be at our next Board meeting January 8th at 9 AM HST, to provide some information about termites and their continued efforts to eradicate these pests from Ekahi.
Our Board of Directors nomination period is officially open, and applications can be submitted to CJ Anthony, our Board Secretary, by January 5th. I attached the form again for you and it can be sent back to secretary@waileakehai.org or dropped off at our office. In other election news, we are pleased to share that our 2025 ballots, voting and election will be managed by Vote HOA Now, an electronic voting platform specifically tailored for HOA and AOAO voting. Our 2025 Annual Owners Meeting will include presentations from our committee chairs this year on February 29, 2025.
