Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,
Maui County is currently under a storm watch for a low-pressure system that could bring high winds and heavy rain to the area. Rain is expected Thursday and Friday this week, and ice and snow are forecasted at Haleakalā’s summit.
By the time you receive this email, you should have gotten your invitation to our 2025 Election of Directors voting platform. Our full calendar of events, Pavilion and Pool closures, and other Owner’s week information was circulated by CJ Anthony, our Board Secretary, on Friday January 17. It’s also available for download when you’re in the voting site. If you’re on Maui, we have sign up forms for the golf event and the owner’s dinner available at Evelyns office. Please make sure your guests are aware of the Pavilion closures and restrictions on use during owners’ week. We have updated the Event Calendar on the Owners website for Owners Week as well. Our Annual General Meeting is Friday February 28th and registration opens at 8:00 AM. Zoom information will be circulated in advance for owners who aren’t coming to Maui for this annual event.

I am pleased to announce the recent hiring of a new maintenance manager at Ekahi. Tim Welch has lived in Maui for over 30 years and has a strong background with almost 20 years in property management. Not only does Tim have a great skill set, but his experience with commercial painting will be formative during our management of the exterior painting later this year. With certification in both chainsaw and pool operations, and the ability to drive heavy equipment, he brings a lot to the table. Tim can be reached at 808-446-1825, and his email is tim@waileaekahi.org
It’s important to alert you all and advise of recent thefts that seem to be targeted at condominium complexes in our area. With my attendance at Maui Condo Hotel Resort Security Association meetings, I’ve been made aware that there is a group of 4-6 suspects active in Wailea who haven’t been caught yet. Grand Champions, Elua and Wailea Beach Villas did capture the suspects on their surveillance, but they are wearing hoodies and faces are masked, so the footage isn’t clear. These suspects have been bold, arriving between 8-10 PM and the last event occurred while the occupants were on the lanai and nearby lawn area, while the bedroom was entered. Please remind your guests to keep sliding doors locked and closed, even if they are close by.
We had a major wind event on Thursday January 16th, resulting in a power outage that lasted until Friday afternoon. The local reports confirmed that our immediate area fared the worst, with downed trees on the golf course and surrounding Ekahi. On Okolani road, there were about 8 downed trees completely blocking our Phase 2 entrances, and 2 large trees blocking S Kihei Rd. Maui County was on sight before 7 AM, and Chloe, Ven and I patrolled our parking lots engaging with guests to advise of access barriers that were preventing them from leaving. Most folks’ highest priority was coffee. Ekahi fared well with only one small, downed Manila palm. Working with a professional arborist for the past 5 years has allowed the canopy of our monkeypods to become well balanced, with less risk of toppling. Check out our Facebook page for storm pictures!

Our hard-working and efficient crew finished our trellis work and painting of the arbor and pool deck out at pool 3 last week. Our cross beams had experienced dry rot, and some pest intrusions, and we replaced all 116 pieces. Our work will continue at outer pools 1 and 2, with 2-day closures when we paint the decks. We will send out a separate email advising of these dates.
In early January, there was a new restaurant opening at the Wailea Fairway Shops, above Manolis. KOAST embodies a shared vision of simple, honest food and showcases the team’s commitment to local ingredients. KOAST is open Monday-Saturday, offers happy hour from 3-5 PM, and dinner from 5-8:30 PM. The outside dining lanai is huge and offers spectacular views of Molokini and Kahoolawe.
Finally, the most exciting staff update is nearly upon us. Chloe, our pool manager, and her partner, are thrilled to be expecting twin boys on February 10th. Chloe has a lot of ohana to help who live close by and will be taking a couple of weeks off for the birth. Please help us congratulate Chloe. We are all so excited to welcome Ekahi’s newest ohana to the world.
