Note from the GM – March 2025

Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,

Our newly elected President Peabody led the first meeting of our new Board of Directors last Wednesday with a concerted effort in implementing time saving measures. Lynn asked that owners hold their questions and comments until the conclusion of the Board reports, and after new/old business, then owners will be given a 3-minute period for a question or comment on matters discussed by the Board. If you have something you would like to discuss with the Board, we ask that you submit your request to the secretary prior to the meeting, so it can be added to our agenda.

For those of you who didn’t see the announcement from our Special Meeting on March 12, Ted Spevick sold his Ekahi unit at 36D and subsequently resigned from the Board. At the Special Meeting, the Board elected CJ Anthony to continue as Secretary for the remaining one year term.

The committee structure is still being finalized, and we will post the updated list after April’s monthly meeting. The communications committee will not be continuing now that our social media account is live, with over 120 active Facebook members on the Ekahi AOAO Owners page. We added an ad-hoc Termite Committee to work with the AOAO office in support of our termite policy and provision of a program that will provide owners guidance in dealing with infestations. Please email one of the Directors with interest in joining a committee. I’ve attached the Board Directory again with the latest changes.

The Board Directory and Committee list can also be found on our Ekahi website:

Currently, we have 17 alteration applications approved, with work happening in all 3 phases this Spring. We often hear guest complaints about noise and are asked how long in advance we knew about the work. I request that you review the systematically generated emails that are sent from the website when I enter an approved alteration and check periodically for updates. Most alterations experience delays due to shipping issues with late materials, and those updates are emailed as the completion dates are extended.

The updates on interior work are posted here:

I’ve received a few forwarded emails with links to either the Mayor’s State of the State address, or the South Maui Community Meeting, regarding STVR units on the Minatoya list. Our Board President gave a report on this subject at the Board meeting Wednesday, and we have added a tab on the website to keep you informed. Most recently, Lynn Peabody and Dan McKenna submitted testimony that’s aligned with Palms at Wailea, Wailea Ekolu, and Grand Champions Villas. You can find that here:

Our maintenance team is continuing with trellis work this month, with a focus on Phase 1 as we prepare for exterior painting. We continue to face staffing challenges, and currently we are running our maintenance team with only 2 of 5 positions filled, and the landscape department is only 60% staffed.  This means we will be more heavily reliant on outside contractors to stay on track with our reserve projects this year. We are sourcing new applicants on Indeed.com and currently offer a generous sign on and employee referral bonus after successful completion of a probationary period.

I found one of my favorite Wailea bartenders working down at The Fairmont a couple weeks ago. Chris worked at Longhi’s for years and is making delicious cocktails with the most spectacular views you could ask for. You should check him out at Pilina, a recently opened sushi bar off the Fairmont’s renovated lobby. Pilina serves fresh off-the-boat sushi, with a featured hot rock presentation that’s worth the trip. I’ve been back to Oao Sushi at Wailea Gateway Shops for their fabulous Japanese menu a couple of times as well. They are open for lunch and do great take-a-way which is very convenient.
