A Note from the GM – June 2025

Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,

July 4th is right around the corner, and I wanted to remind you that our AOAO offices and shops will be closed on Friday in observance of the holiday. Please remind your contractors that work is prohibited on July 4th, and so are fireworks on property. Our pool department will be fully staffed.

Wailea Beach, in front of the Grand Wailea, will have a fireworks display at 8 PM on July 4th.

The biggest update at Ekahi is the announcement about a promotion for Chloe Komiss. June 8th was Chloe’s 8-year anniversary, and she has developed her skills and leadership to a point where she is ready for the next step. We are thrilled to name Chloe as our Operations Manager, with direct oversight of the Maintenance Department and assisting the GM in the consistent implementation of Ekahi’s Operation Policies, Bylaws, and House Rules. Chloe will be assisting with the search for a replacement pool supervisor to round out that team. Please help me in congratulating Chloe!

Chloe was provided a work phone and can be reached at 808-344-9452 or chloe@waileaekahi.org

This spring, we were able to complete the painting of Phase 1 ground floor entryways, lanai trellises, entry and lanai lights, gates, and signs. If you have installed any new or additional exterior lighting fixtures approved by the Board, they will be masked off for the exterior painting project. Ceiling fans, wall décor, string lights, rolling shades and all other items affixed to exterior walls, including your “no shoes” entry signs, must be removed in advance of the painting. I’ve attached the FAQ information again so you have the resources available to assist you with this preparation.

In June, we sent out notifications to some owners in Phase 1 that require lanai work with trellis post replacements. These posts often rot at the base right above the footings due to moisture retention from weather and irrigation. The cross beams get damaged due to the excess weight and moisture trapped against the wood from mature plants, like bougainvillea. We can complete this post-placement work while you are guest occupied, but it is our preference to have a vacancy opportunity provided. The work takes about 4 days depending on how many posts need replacing and includes pruning and removal of plant materials growing on top of the trellis.

After 25 years the General Manager of WCA, Frank ‘Bud’ Pikrone, announced his retirement from Wailea Community Association. Our last Wailea GM luncheon gathering with be hosted by WCA on Friday June 27. Bud resides in Wailea, and you can usually find him enjoying a pau hana at Tommy’s Bar and Grill on a Friday afternoon. We don’t know who will be filling his shoes but certainly wish him well after his tireless efforts and dedication to the Wailea Resort Community.

In honor of a recent college graduation accomplishment, I wanted to buy a special lei for a friend, while supporting small business. When I stopped by my favorite local spot Native Intelligence for a stunning handcrafted local lei, I noticed a sign saying they now deliver! Please text or call 808-283-2427 to enquire. For those of you that haven’t explored this beautiful shop in Wailuku, I highly recommend you have a look next time you’re in the area. Native Intelligence is more than a traditional retail establishment. The goal of Native Intelligence is to champion cultural traditions, craftsmanship and good designs while perpetuating Hawaiian values. In addition to fresh lei, they have local art, jewelry, and other home decor. Native Intelligence is located at 1980 Main Street.

Around the corner on Wailuku’s Market Street, 62 MarcKet is a fantastic restaurant open for breakfast and lunch with an ever-changing seasonal menu. It’s quite small so you should check their website for a booking before you head over. If they are on a wait at 62 MarcKet, you could grab an outside table at Wailuku Coffee and enjoy a delicious snack there instead. Main Street Wailuku is truly my favorite Maui spot for people watching.
