Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners,
Maui County is busy working on South Kihei road, with a road closure April 20-June 20. The section of the lower road between Kaonoulu and Kalanihakoi has a large floodplain that extends to the ocean, and they need to reinforce the bridge again. Both streets are feeder roads to the main highway, and Kulanihakoi comes out right at our roundabout. Traffic is heavy between 730-9 AM, and again between 4-6 PM when residents get off work, and head to town. We have had 2 vendors cancel afternoon appointments this week due to the traffic coming into Kihei. Please plan accordingly.
As summer approaches, with extended daylight hours, on May 1st we will adjust the community BBQ closing time to 9 PM to accommodate guests that enjoy sunset and come home to grill. November 1, we go back to the 8 PM closing time. These BBQ sites are ever so popular, and we haven’t had many requests for propane, or recent complaints about operation of the new electric grills. Thanks Jeff! If you BBQ outside this weekend, you may have to contend with some gnats as the excess moisture has caused a huge increase of these pests. The trade winds are forecasted to return, so hopefully that helps quell the outbreak.
At the April 16 Board of Directors meeting, the Board moved to cancel their monthly meetings for June and August to enjoy summer travel during these quieter periods. They will call a Special Meeting of the Board for review of alteration applications, or other pressing business. I have attached the revised schedule, and it’s also posted on our website.
Ekahi AOAO’s new office admin is starting on Monday April 27th, and will work Monday through Friday 8-4. Shannon Nordquist moved here from Houston recently and comes with a lot of experience and working knowledge with QuickBooks used at her prior positions. Shannon was busy helping folks file their taxes with H&R Block in the interim and lives close by with her husband. We assigned a new email address for her office that is activated. This account for sending your occupancy reports is important, so please make a note. We will send another reminder about occupancy reports to agents and owners once we get Shannon up and running.
Remember, for questions related to your fees and account activity, you can message Tammy, or our general accounting inbox.

We have moved into the next phase of the exterior painting project, with building 36 underway. There is special consideration being given, and extra landscape planning, for the buildings adjacent to Okolani due to proximity of road noise. The design consultants’ plan and guide for implementation are being issued in an email to owners with a painting reminder about 2 weeks prior to starting your building. Don’t forget, we need your guest to check out the day before painting to allow the appropriate time for your service providers to clear off the lanai. We have run into a couple last-minute problems related to ceiling fans and exterior lights and wanted to inform you that an electrician may be required to disconnect and reinstall your lanai fans. We have crew working around the buildings to prep for painting a few weeks in advance, including work on or around your lanais.
I’ll remind you again that owner occupancy is very difficult to navigate when we are painting, with all doors and windows taped closed and masked off, including a cover for your AC which can’t be operated for the duration of the building’s schedule. It is unfortunate that buildings 36-54 have a make-up period that falls in the highest occupancy period of the year (December 21, 2026, to January 8, 2027) but we must ask you to keep that window of time blocked for occupancy until your building is finished. I’ve attached the current schedule and FAQ.
If you haven’t noted the dates already, please refer to the events calendar for the upcoming pickleball court and Pavilion closures this year. This calendar is a great tool we provide for you to stay on top of these projects. We had 2 condos refuse to allow pest control to access this week, not because they didn’t want the condo sprayed, but because they hadn’t been informed in advance. If you do miss a scheduled pest control appointment, please call Dani at Mid Pacific to arrange your $35 direct payment, and we will add you to the Tuesday schedule when we get her confirmation.

The AOAO has about 20 commercial grade chaise lounge chairs available for sale. You might recollect we used some Costco Omega loungers for about 4 months while we were fighting the warranty for our old chaise slings. We will deliver these to your lanai for $50 each and can bill your account directly. Once we are sold out, I will post an update to our owner Facebook page. I’ve attached a photo and ask that you contact Tammy directly for your order.
