The island occupancy is still slower than normal for October, and the Wailea hotels aren’t forecasting as active of a holiday season as previous years. A few of the local hotels have been hosting special dinners, concerts, and other fundraising events to benefit the residents impacted by Maui’s fires this past August so keep your eyes open for those opportunities.

At our October Board meeting, we had exciting initiatives brought forward by our Pavilion Committee Chair, Steve Shepherd. I am pleased to share the news with you all that our recreation room at the Pavilion will be outfitted as a fitness center in the upcoming months. With at least 3 pieces of cardio equipment, air-conditioning, some free weights and more, this has been a heavily requested amenity by guest and owners alike. I’ve attached a conceptual design for our proposed layout.

We have also come to an agreeable solution for the Water Equipment Storage room and will be sharing more about that once we get the racks underway with a system in place for Owner SUP storage. We won’t be taking reservations, and our storage room can only house about 12 stand up paddle boards measuring 10.5 feet or less due to the height restrictions of the trellis. For those of you that have been inquiring, Kayaks will not fit. There has been further discussion about a rollout of Phase 2 and 3 where we could potentially provide some alternate day use storage for guests, and a longer-term storage area in the upper phase of Ekahi, close to the BBQ area and landscape shop yard at building 47. More to come on that.

Our Landscape Chair was just here, and we reviewed the omnipresent gulch work and recent concerns about eliminating the brush and debris that could be deemed by the county as fire risk. I will be coordinating efforts with the Maluhia Site Manager to get the South bank cleared of debris, palm fronds, overgrown bushes, and invasive plants. We haven’t had substantial enough rain this season to have full flow in our gully and want to be well prepared when we do. Once the debris removal is complete, Maluhia intends on planting some Areca Palms to conceal their perimeter fence.

On-going roadwork on Wailea Alanui and Okolani is dragging out longer than expected. We have watched them patch and re-dig the same sections of road about 3 times now and we do not have an end date for this project. It’s related to the water needs for the La’i Loa development above us, and their requirements for fire hydrants. There is also a crew on upper Okolani, still completing the bridge work where the gulch goes underneath Okolani adjacent to Lai Loa.

Friendly reminder to bring a copy of your car key to the office if you’re parking a long-term vehicle at Ekahi. There’s some tree trimming coming up in November that will require vehicles to be relocated. If we don’t have a key, you may incur tow charges to move your vehicle to another location away from the work.

Ekahi’s Social season is ramping up with a Halloween Party on October 31st at our Pavilion. I’ve attached a flyer for you to share with your guests. There’s also a Halloween event at The Shops of Wailea on Sunday the 29th with a keiki and pet costume contest!

Please keep your occupancy updated and let us know where you’re coming so we can plan the upcoming Festive Season with all owners in mind. Don’t forget our Annual Owners Meeting is Friday, February 16th, 2024, with a full week of social events and other chances to engage with our Board and Ekahi community.

Attached you will find:

September financials

Approved minutes from the September 20th Board of Directors meeting

Fitness center conceptual design

Stunning rainbow photo captured at our Beach Pavilion by Lauren Parry last Friday night

Aloha Wailea Ekahi Homeowners, It’s starting to get busy at Ekahi with the return of our Owners escaping the cold and I even got my first snow photo emailed from Calgary!
